Supramolecular Biopolymers for Tissue Engineering

Supramolecular biopolymers (SBPs) are those polymeric units derived from macromolecules that can assemble with each other by noncovalent interactions. Macromolecular structures commonly found in living systems such as proteins, DNA/RNA, and polysaccharides. Bioorganic chemistry allows the generation of sequence-specific supramolecular like SBPs be tailored for novel applications tissue engineering (TE). hold advantages over conventional polymers previously used TE; these materials easily functionalized; they self-healing, biodegradable, stimuli-responsive, nonimmunogenic. These characteristics vital further development current trends TE, use pluripotent cells organoid generation, cell-free scaffolds regeneration, patient-derived organ models, controlled delivery small molecules. In this review, we will analyse 3 subtypes SBPs: peptide-, nucleic acid-, oligosaccharide-derived. Then, discuss role playing TE dynamic scaffolds, therapeutic bioinks. Finally, describe possible outlooks TE.
